Frequently asked questions

What is the CLIP database?

The online clinical improvement projects (CLIP) database is an eGuidelines.co.uk initiative providing a one stop resource that is of value to all those involved in promoting and implementing improvements in clinical practice.

The database is made up of titles and summaries (where appropriate) of completed and ongoing local clinical effectiveness initiatives from your colleagues in all NHS regions.

Supplied with each initiative are full address details for the person to contact for further information, forming a national network of clinical effectiveness contacts. Records are constantly being added to provide a valuable and up-to-date resource.

Why use the database?

To avoid reinventing the wheel, CLIP gives you easy access to a constantly updated index of existing clinical improvement and audit information. It also allows you to share your resources and expertise with your colleagues.

Accessing the database

All visitors can search the CLIP database without having to enter an eGuidelines.co.uk username and password. Click on the 'Search CLIP' button at the top of this page to begin.

If you would like to add a project to the database, or edit your projects, you will need to log in with an eGuidelines.co.uk username and password. This will allow you to register for CLIP and ensures that only you are able to edit your projects.

If you do not have an eGuidelines.co.uk username and password, please click here to register for eGuidelines.co.uk.

You will receive an email confirming your eGuidelines.co.uk registration. You can then use these to log into the CLIP database and add or edit your project.

How do I use the database?

  1. Follow the link above to the search page
  2. Define your search in any of the following ways:
    • type in any word to search the project titles
    • pick a preselected keyword from our drop-down list
    • search for all projects in a specific clinical area or geographical region, or of a particular type, such as ‘Audit project’, using our drop-down lists
  3. Select the number of results you want to be shown on each page and how you would like them displayed
  4. Click on ‘Start Search’

Results are shown as an alphabetical list of project titles with brief details. At the top of the Results page, there are options to sort the list by title, geographical region, contributing organisation or project type.

Follow the ‘Click here for full project details’ link under each project listing to bring up the full details, including full contact details if you would like more information about that project. If an email address has been supplied for the contact person, then you can email them directly from the CLIP database by clicking on their address.
