eGuidelines.co.uk updates will keep GPs informed

Julia Morris

The last eGuidelines.co.uk poll asked users: ‘What is your main source of information on current NICE guidance?’ From the votes cast, the majority of respondents (48%) answered ‘directly from NICE’ (see Figure 1), with 28% listing ‘other journals and websites’ as their main information source. As the majority of those who responded were GPs, the acknowledgement by 20% of respondents that they ‘do not have time to keep up to date with NICE guidance’ was perhaps not surprising. As one GP succinctly put it, ‘Too many guidelines raining too fast along with other changes around us. I feel like I am on a merry-go-round unable to stop and look at things peacefully!’

With the need for GPs to demonstrate their continuing professional development and provide information for GP appraisals, many are updating their knowledge of current guidance: in another eGuidelines.co.uk poll, conducted in May, 64% of respondents stated that keeping up to date with clinical guidelines formed part of their PDP/appraisal preparation. With this in mind, eGuidelines.co.uk has introduced new features to make this process easier:

  • the CPD knowledge tracker allows you to test and track your clinical guideline knowledge—Guidelines in Practice CPD questions can be completed online and a score received instantly
  • the CPD news tracker ensures that you receive the latest healthcare news from across the web—select the feeds relevant to you; articles you have read are tracked automatically and notes can be added.

Further updates to eGuidelines.co.uk will be announced over the coming months and your feedback is greatly appreciated. G
